Partial months & prorating
A month you don’t work in full — some requirements may need to be prorated by your supervisor.
What it means
When you don’t work a full calendar month (starting mid-month, taking leave, and so on), some requirements may need to be prorated. The Handbook gives one formula, for the 2022 requirements: if you are short on supervisor contacts, the month’s hours are prorated by the percentage of required contacts you did have. Everything else is the supervisor’s judgement, and they should be able to show how they worked it out if audited. A month still needs at least 20 hours to count at all.
Example
You work only two weeks of a month; your supervisor prorates the required supervision to match the hours actually accrued.
Where it trips people up
Prorating is judgment-based, so document how it was calculated. And a partial month below 20 hours still doesn’t count.
