Supervisor qualifications
Who may supervise fieldwork — since January 1, 2026, only active BCBAs in good standing.
What it means
A fieldwork supervisor must be an active BCBA in good standing with no current disciplinary sanctions (certified 1+ year with the ongoing supervision CEU, or certified under a year with monthly consultation from a qualified consulting supervisor). Supervisors must also complete the 8-hour supervision training before signing a supervision contract. This is the same under the current and the 2027 requirements: the routes for a licensed psychologist or a non-certified Verified Course Sequence instructor ended on January 1, 2026.

A BCBA certified for 2 years who has completed the 8-hour supervision training and meets the supervision CEU can supervise you today.
Where it trips people up
The supervisor may not be related to you, your subordinate, employed by you, or in another multiple relationship with you (working at the same organization is fine). And being an RBT supervisor doesn’t make someone a qualified fieldwork supervisor — the requirements are different.
